THE CREATION OF LIFE
Creation I
A lifeless collection of amino acids
acquires the rudiment of life,
which is to replicate.
In the process of replication,
mutations are naturally selected
for traits that enhance the persistence
of this new little bit of life.
Because these traits all inherit the
Very same Will (to survive),
They transform in kind
From a multitude of objects
Into a single subject,
And, in the process,
Give birth to
Mind.

Creation II
Behold the cell:
A tiny single-minded universe.
Cells began assembling into
The majestic multitude of
Multicellular creatures:
The benefactor of Mother Nature’s
Creative power to select
Shifted
From the cells themselves,
To the signaling among them,
Which, with time, Nature rendered into
Flesh with nerves and brains
To tie together all those tiny little minds
Into minds with a higher Nature.

The grandeur, complexity, and mystery of creation distilled into poetry. Bravo!
